To those who achieved MDRT, congratulations and a huge pat on your back for not giving up despite the challenges and setbacks you might have faced.
To those who did not achieve MDRT, yet fought through every ‘No’ from clients, kept pushing further after every mile, and planned for your prospects and clients to the very best of your ability, keep it up and persist.
Yes, persist. It’s 2019 now, and the slate is clean. Time to turn the many ‘No-s’ into ‘Yes-es’. The efforts of yesterday do not go to waste. The metaphoric muscle you’ve trained by connecting with clients does not go to waste unless you stop taking actions.
There will be days when you feel like quitting. There will be days when you question yourself for whom are you fighting for. Nevertheless, you have to persist.
“Well begun is half done” – Aristotle
It’s the beginning of 2019, and as Aristotle suggested- starting well is almost half done. So, here are some inspirational tips to get a good jump start to the year:
1. Visualising your end goal
Say you want to be an MDRT producer; first, you’ll have to picture yourself as an MDRT producer. But of course, everyone has different goals to reach, and the best part is, you can apply this technique to any aspect of your life.
2. Be efficient with your time
Some of us are most productive in the morning, some only in the afternoon or so. Figuring out when your mentality is most driven to complete tasks (or difficult tasks) would help save you precious time and effort.
3. Be the eagle instead of the chicken
Be careful of the company you keep. Because even an eagle can become a chicken. In the story, an eagle grew up with chickens. He knew he was different as he grew bigger and would admire the eagles that soared in the sky. However, as the chickens do not fly, the eagle never did learn to fly.
Moral of the story: seek out the successful people you want to model and be in their company if you want to be successful.

4. Sometimes even a lion needs help
It’s okay to feel overwhelmed at times. Even the best of us have bad days and feel like quitting. So when you feel that all is lost and the odds are stacked against you, reach out to an ally, your agency leader, or your pacing buddy. Because they say, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
5. Conscious and unconscious fears. Face your fears and uncover the road to success.
When it comes to fear, we either fight or take flight. It’s an innate emotion that could paralyse us in extreme cases of fear. We may confront our fears sometimes, but there may be times where we run away feeling helpless and powerless.
However, letting fear stop us, control us is only going to strengthen the power fear has over us if we do not overcome it.
Conscious fears are fears we know we have, e.g. fear of heights, deep waters, etc. However, most of us are unaware of unconscious fears. If you haven’t figured out what truly are your unconscious fears, it’s time you start getting to know yourself better.
Once you do that, there’s a good chance your fears won’t be sabotaging your own efforts to be successful.
We all chase different victories in life
Nevertheless, we all have different yardsticks to measure success. We all have different talents, and some talents shine brighter in other aspects as long as you can recognise it.
We are living in a world that revolves around so much on correcting our flaws that we neglect our strengths. So it’s time we pay homage to our talents and strengths.
For us at Asia Advisers Network, it’s having a collection of good works from conception to date. It’s also how we launch the yearly Asia Trusted Life Agents & Advisers Awards to honour and reward the best people in life insurance agency and advisory across the region.
There are many categories in this Awards, as we recognise one mould does not fit all. After all, one may be better at being an inspirational leader than being a digital leader. But one thing is clear, what the judges look at is beyond production. Quality of business, contributions to company, industry and society – these qualitative measures matter as much if not more.
We look forward to receiving your entry for the Awards.
