APLIC: Over 5,000 life practitioners to come "Together as One" from 17-19 May

09 May 2017

Over 5,000 life insurance practitioners from 13 countries will attend the 16th Asia Pacific Life Insurance Congress (APLIC) from 17-19 May 2017 at Resorts World Genting, Genting Highlands, Malaysia. It will be hosted by NAMLIFA, the National Association of Malaysian Life Insurance and Financial Advisors.

The Congress, featuring over 30 speakers from all over the world and themed “Together As One”, is expected to generate MYR45million (US$10.38 million) for the host country through foreign spending, given the expected 60% foreign participation.

Topics to be covered include Sales and Marketing, Financial and Investment Planning, Agency management, Motivation and Personal Development. In addition, there will be a forum on Inspiring female leaders in Asia, where participants will gain insight into their success stories, said Mr Tang Kia Sing, Organising Chairman, at a media briefing last Wednesday.

In 2016, a total of 12.6 million lives in Malaysia were insured, with the sum assured standing at MYR41,055-- below the average mortality protection gap of about MYR150,000 for each member of a family. Thus the APLIC event provides an opportunity for growth and moral responsibility as practitioners to close the gap, said NAMLIFA.

“Consequently, the APLIC congress is a forum for advocating critical developmental issues, agenda for the good of the insurance business and the ultimate benefits of countries in the sub-region,” said Mr James Bong, President of NAMLIFA.

“The need to have this Congress calls for the need to increase competence of the agency force through education. We foresee a rapid and healthy economic growth and rising disposable incomes which will continue to boost for demand of insurance products in many Southeast Asia markets,” said Mr.S.K.Samy, Chairman of Asia Pacific Financial Services Association (APFINSA).

APLIC is a biannual platform which gathers life insurance sales professionals and advisors from all over the region, and is said to be the largest financial services congress regionally. Malaysia last hosted the event in 1993 and 2005.
