Singapore Agency Managers' Conference: Leadership in the digital age

| 12 Sep 2018

"To lead, you need to know where you are going," said Andy Law, Organising Committee Chairman of the 18th Singapore Agency Managers' Conference (SAMC), which is happening on 26 September.

The conference, organised by the Financial Services Managers Association (FSMA), has the theme “Leadership in the Digital Age”.

The global economy is entering the Fourth Industrial Revolution, spearheaded by evolving technological trends which are resulting in digital disruptions. It can be an unsettling period for some as fintech and the likes cause disruption to usual practices.

“As leaders, it is our duty to stay on top of what’s happening, to adapt and transform even faster so we can provide a clear vision and roadmap to lead our agencies,” said Andy, who has 11 years of experience as an agency leader in his 18-year insurance career.

And the 18th SAMC is designed to do just that

“While organising the annual SAMC, we understand how sometimes as industry players, we see these trends as a threat. At FSMA, we understand that it is essential for us to view technology as a friend and not a foe to stay relevant in the industry,” he said.

Hence, the programme and speakers have been meticulously put together. “It is not just a forum for academic discussion on industry trends. Attendees will also get to hear from fellow successful agency leaders who will selflessly share their strategies and tactics in the digital age and leave with practical tips that they can implement right away,” said Andy, who is also 3rd Vice President of FSMA.

Some speakers attendees can look forward to include:

For insights from a C-level executive, Odd Haavik, Chief Distribution Officer, Prudential Assurance Company Singapore (PACS), will be delivering the keynote address. Odd is responsible for driving the performance of PACS’ combined distribution channels, ensuring alignment of strategy across distribution channels and developing partnerships that will help grow PACS’ agency distribution.

For sharing by established agency leaders, among them is Tan Lay Seong who won Insurance Agency Leader of the Year at the 3rd Asia Trusted Life Agents & Advisers Awards this year. The award-winning leader from Malaysia will be sharing on the process and planning to build a sustainable “champion agency”.

And to ride the digital wave, Calvin Lee, who was awarded LinkedIn Champion 2018 by his company, will share the systems he uses to increase recruitment numbers and generate quality sales leads to help his team 24/7. Also, Augustine Seah, who’s leading a team of young advisers and tapping the powers of social media, will share the keys to understanding millennials and how to engage them.

Continuous learning

“As leaders, we need to keep expanding our skill set in response to changing environment and new development. FSMA believes in supporting our members in continuous learning, and this is the reason why we hold SAMC annually. Join us at the conference to stay relevant and ahead of changes, and learn from top leaders on their best practices,” he said.

“I’d also like to place on record our thanks to all the speakers who accepted the invitation to come forward to share selflessly and to contribute to the industry,” he concluded.
