26 Sep 2018

The National Association of Malaysian Life Insurance and Family Takaful Advisors (NAMLIFA) held its National Leadership Camp in Pulau Langkawi earlier this month, preparing National and Branch leaders to face the challenges in the ever-evolving insurance landscape in Malaysia with the theme "Soar to a Greater NAMLIFA".

The annual event was well attended by all National Council members and Branch Chairman with their teams. The leadership camp sets the stage for NAMLIFA to lead the industry on policy matters and coordinate various activities to uplift the Malaysian life insurance industry.

With the impending phased liberalisation of the life insurance industry in 2019, NAMLIFA is hopeful to play a critical role in ensuring the implementation is equitable and just for all, especially its members, for a sustainable industry and career.

Mr Jensen Siaw, renowned international speaker and author, took the stage as an invited speaker to share on leadership and team performance. Key takeaways include seeing a higher purpose in the work we do, be inspired to excel as a leader, take constructive steps to lead the team to the next level of performance and commit 100% to achieve organisational goals.

Asia Advisers Network Editor Benjamin Ang also spoke at the event, sharing the vision and mission of Asia Advisers Network and how AAN and NAMLIFA can collaborate. He also provided insights into the key trends of the industry and why insurance advisers will continue to stay relevant even in the era of technological disruption.

NAMLIFA celebrates 40th Anniversary

This year is extra special for NAMLIFA as it marks its 40th anniversary as the national association in the country which has played a significant role in the Malaysian life insurance industry over the years.

The new National Council team aspires to work on a concept of “Reform.Perform.Transform”, to work from within, for NAMLIFA to continue to play a significant role in shaping the industry, and to ensure the agency force remains the primary distribution channel with adequate support and well remunerated.

In conjunction with the Leadership Camp, a special Insurance Torch Run was organised, where more than 100 insurance leaders participated in this meaningful run to promote the important message of insurance awareness amongst Malaysians.

A Torch handing over ceremony was held at Eagle Square, Langkawi by NAMLIFA National President Lim Kim Poi to all 12 Branch Chairman.

NAMLIFA invited Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif of Lembaga Pembangunan Langkawi (LADA), YBhg Dato’ Haji Azizan Noordin to be the Guest of Honour, who was represented by Tuan Haji Mustafa Bakri. The Pengurus Pusat Penerangan Pelancongan Langkawi, Encik Ahmad Junaidy Bin Yahaya together with Mr KP Lim, jointly flagged off the run.

NAMLIFA Branches are expected to host the run at their respective city from November 2018 onwards with the grand finale scheduled at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur, early next year with a few thousand participants expected.  NAMLIFA Kuching  Branch had taken the lead in hosting the first event on 3rd December 2017, attracting some 2,000 runners from all walks of life, with great success.

The objective of Run for Insurance is to create greater awareness and remind the public on the importance of insurance protection for families in line with Bank Negara Malaysia’s insurance penetration goal of 75% by the year 2020. Currently, Malaysia’s life insurance penetration rate is only 56%, while Family Takaful’s penetration is trailing behind at 14.8% as of 2017.

In line with this NAMLIFA welcomes the participation of Bank Negara Malaysia and Life Insurance Association of Malaysia to support the noble initiative and to promote it together.

NAMLIFA has made significant contributions to the national economy and life insurance sector over the years, fulfilling its responsibility to lead and promote the industry for a better, well protected Malaysian society.
