The 4th Asia Trusted Life Agents & Advisers Awards ("Awards") is unlike any Awards in Asia for the industry. It goes beyond production figures in order to identify true excellence and professionalism in the insurance community.
With over 20 judges made up of senior executives and industry leaders, the judging process is transparent, independently audited and guarantees impartiality across the competition. As a regional and neutral platform, this year’s Awards is no different as we search for the best professionals in the insurance industry.
Judge highlight – Anusha Thavarajah
Sitting on the judging panel is Ms Anusha Thavarajah, representing the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia as its President. As CEO of AIA Bhd., she is also responsible for AIA’s General Insurance, Pension and Asset Management, and Health Services units, as well as AIA PUBLIC Takaful Bhd, AIA’s jointly owned Takaful company with Public Bank Berhad and Public Islamic Bank Berhad.
Anusha’s career in insurance spans over 25 years and began in the United Kingdom. She has held several leadership roles in AIA and ING, including as AIA’s Deputy General Manager of Operations, Finance and Actuarial where she played a key role in the successful integration of AIA and ING’s businesses in Malaysia.
Prior to her CEO appointment, Anusha was Regional Business Development Director at AIA Group Limited, where she provided strategic leadership to AIA’s businesses in Southeast Asia. Anusha graduated with First Class Honours in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Birmingham. She is also a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries, United Kingdom.
So why is the Awards an important initiative for the industry? Here’s what Anusha has to say…
“Insurance agents and advisers in Malaysia – and I believe across Asia as well – go through numerous hurdles and everyday challenges, and even so, misconceptions often surround them. Despite having the duty of providing people with the insights to essential health, wellness, financial and insurance solutions, they are viewed as being persistent with their intentions often misunderstood.
Nobody wakes up with the intention of buying insurance, so the onus is upon an agent to share knowledge and render expertise in counselling their customers of the importance of owning a policy, and to thereon help them curate one that best fits their needs to protect them and their loved ones. Insurance is still, in many ways, a business that needs human touch, and therein lies the critical role that the agents and advisers play as they offer lifetime professional advice to their customers and help them plan for the future.
As the insurance industry in Asia continues to hold itself to the highest standards of business integrity and ethical practices and remains committed to putting the customers at the centre of everything that we do, it has become all the more important that we must continue to invest in building and nurturing highly professionalised agents and advisers who are not only committed to this profession, but are also knowledgeable and continuously evolving to meet customers’ needs and earn their trust.
Therefore, I truly believe that the Asia Trusted Life Agents & Advisers Awards is one fantastic initiative that provides a great platform for all of us in the insurance industry to come together and honour the extraordinary accomplishments of our finest in the region. It also plays an important role in supporting our efforts throughout the region in elevating the standards and improving the image of our fellow insurance agents and advisers. And I am deeply honoured to be a part of the judging panel for the 2019 awards.”
