Australia: Life industry swings behind new peak body

The Council of Australian Life Insurers (CALI) says it has secured the support of the industry as the new peak body prepares for incoming CEO Christine Cupitt to start in January.

CALI has announced that 19 life insurers and reinsurers have now become full members, representing 99% of the life insurance industry and 100% of the reinsurance industry in Australia. 

The peak body has also finalised its board membership, with representatives from AIA Australia, ClearView, Integrity Life, MetLife, MLC Life Insurance, Pacific Life Re, Resolution Life Australasia, TAL, and Zurich Financial Services. 

“CALI has been established as a dedicated peak body to act as the progressive voice of life insurance in Australia and to represent the interests of the industry and our customers and partners,” Co-Chairs Damien Mu and Brett Clark said. 

“CALI has an essential role to play in driving positive outcomes through engagement with our stakeholders, including Government, consumers, their representatives, and regulators.”

Mr Mu is AIA Australia CEO and Mr Clark Group CEO of TAL.
