Malaysia: MDRT to boost insurance agents' credibility

| 13 Jul 2023

All insurance agents should strive to be a member of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) to boost their credibility. This would allow consumers to receive information about insurance, hence ensuring their future protection.

Malaysian Insurance Institute interim chief executive officer Jaya Kohli said amid the uncertainties and disruptions brought about by global events and socioeconomic conditions in Malaysia, they were committed to delivering educational programmes, industry-wide collaborations and thought leadership initiatives to insurance agents.

"Our main goal is for the people to receive information about insurance and be dealt with in a professional, ethical manner.

"We aim to showcase and get the message out there that insurance is a necessity.

"It's no longer something of a luxury," she said in an interview on the sidelines of the 2023 MDRT Convention recently.

To qualify as an MDRT member, agents must meet a certain level of premium, commission or income during the year and also adhere to strict ethical standards.

Malaysia MDRT Country chairman Tan Kim Fang said the group was striving to better educate Malaysians about the importance of subscribing to insurance plans for future protection.

She said their profession as insurance agents was often overlooked, and some people would shoo them away when they heard the word "insurance".

"In September 2022, 38 dedicated MDRT Communication Committee members from various companies gathered and discussed the campaign to promote the insurance industry."

She said that they had launched the #ChooseMDRT campaign which aimed to encapsulate the essence of their mission to redefine the fabric of their profession, and encourage everyone to see the value and significance of an MDRT membership.

"By choosing MDRT, we are choosing excellence, professionalism and unparalleled expertise. By choosing to buy a policy, we are choosing to protect lives and secure futures."

The convention was sponsored by Allianz Life Insurance Malaysia Bhd (titanium sponsor), Etiqa Family Takaful Bhd (platinum sponsor), Etiqa Life Insurance Bhd (platinum sponsor), Prudential Assurance Malaysia Bhd (platinum sponsor), FWD Takaful Bhd (gold sponsor), Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Bhd (gold sponsor) and Takaful Ikhlas Family Bhd (silver sponsor), reported New Straits Times.
