The Asia Pacific Life Insurance Virtual Congress was held on 23 March 2021 in Singapore and streamed 'live' to more than nine countries, 3,000 delegates and partners, as well as Presidents of APFinSA member associations. Here's a round up of the event.

Carlos Lee, 18th APLIC 2022 Co-Chairman, and President, IFPAS Executive Council 2020/2021, in his welcome address, said: “It has been over a year since the pandemic has struck us. We have seen during this period that a lot of businesses have gone through struggles. But we have also seen businesses that have been able to transform during this period and performed even better.”

Specifically for the industry, he added: “In our trade of business, we have seen a lot of advisers engage clients in new ways and excelled. I encourage everyone to ride this through and we can emerge even stronger.”

Dr Edward Koh, Executive Director, Conventions, Meetings & Incentive Travel Experience Development Group, Singapore Tourism Board, shared some positive observations and developments.

Firstly, individuals and organisations have been adapting to the new normal. He said, “We have seen resilient organisations like APFinSa and IFPAS getting ready in preparing for the future.”

“The second positive is that we are seeing light at the end of the tunnel,” he added.  Since October 2020, Singapore Tourism Board has been starting to receive applications for MICE events for up to 250 persons. “We have seen more than 50 events successfully completed. That gives us more confidence to proceed with larger events.”

He said, “We remain confident and optimistic to host APLIC 2022 in Singapore.”

Taking the stage as the first speaker of the event was France Zaguirre, Asia Pacific Financial Services Association Awardee 2020-2021, MDRT 2019-2020, and Court of the Table 2021.

In the last quarter of 2020, he had a $90,000 FYC gap standing between him and his first Court of the Table.

While it seemed impossible, especially in a pandemic year, he did not give up.

His game plan was to close $1,000 FYC daily for 90 days, opening three new cases daily, and focusing on $200 a month “ECA”. ECA is his creative approach to ask his prospects if they have opened their “Emergency Cash Account” to arouse interest and get a chance to explain himself.

On achieving such a stretch goal in the final quarter, he said: “For you to achieve your goal, you have to want it. You cannot just dream about it and do nothing about it. You need to want it. You need to have a strong why and just believe that everything can be possible.”
