Prudential Hong Kong has expanded its partnership with IHH Healthcare North Asia to include additional medical facilities in Hong Kong and mainland China.
The Medical Expenses Direct Billing Service is now available at Gleneagles MediCentre in Hong Kong and Parkway Shanghai Hospital, in addition to the existing service at Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong.
Prudential claims to be the first insurer in Hong Kong to collaborate with IHH Healthcare North Asia to extend the Shanghai-Hong Kong healthcare network. The company began its partnership with Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong in 2018.
The expansion is intended to address increased demand for cross-border medical services and to broaden Prudential’s healthcare network in the region. According to Prudential’s “2025 Half Year Individual Life Claims Report,” the number of claims processed through the Medical Expenses Direct Billing Service increased by 87% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
Eligible Prudential policyholders can now seek pre-approval for medical expenses at Gleneagles MediCentre and Parkway Shanghai Hospital before receiving treatment. The medical institutions submit pre-approval requests to Prudential, which settles approved expenses directly after treatment. Customers are also able to book appointments and room arrangements through the service.
The direct billing service is structured to manage administrative processes between the insurer and the medical providers, allowing customers to proceed with their treatment while billing and paperwork are handled by the organisations involved.
Mr Lawrence Lam, Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Hong Kong, said there is a continued increase in demand for cross-border healthcare services.
“At Prudential, we remain committed to our promise of ‘Listening. Understanding. Delivering.’ and have been actively expanding our cross-border medical network. As an industry pioneer, we are dedicated to advancing cross-border healthcare by connecting top-tier medical resources across the Greater Bay Area and major cities in Asia,” he said, reported Insurance Business.
