Korea: AIA Life strengthens cancer coverage with new-concept rider

| 09 Mar 2026

AIA Life Insurance Korea has secured a nine-month exclusive usage right from the Life Insurance Association of Korea for its new rider designed to cover cancer treatments based on advanced medical technologies.

The Seoul-based company noted that its rider received the exclusive approval thanks to its originality, usefulness, advancement, and development effort.

The nine-month exclusive usage right indicates that the product has been recognized for delivering meaningful insurance value to customers through innovative coverage, according to AIA Life.

The rider bundles coverage for four new medical technologies under a single insurance option to improve accessibility.

Three treatments were specifically granted exclusive usage rights. They are percutaneous radiofrequency ablation, percutaneous microwave thermal ablation, and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy.

By covering these procedures, AIA Life stated that the new rider expands protection beyond conventional cancer treatments, offering additional options for patients who face difficulties undergoing surgery.

AIA Life also designed the coverage amounts based on actual patient out-of-pocket cost data, aiming to reduce the financial burden associated with expensive advanced treatments.

The company said the approach was positively evaluated in the review process because it reflects real treatment costs experienced by patients.

“We place customers at the starting point of every decision to help people live healthier, longer, and better lives,” AIA Life Chief Customer Officer You ShinOk said.

“Because this rider was designed based on the real cancer treatment journeys and voices of customers, it will help broaden treatment options while easing the financial burden associated with care.” Ms You said, reported Korea News Plus.
