What got Asia Advisers Network readers' attention in January? We bring you the best articles that created the most buzz.

1) "Without insurance, I wouldn't know where to find the money for my cancer treatment"

Mrs B* was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in March last year. Just nine months later, she has chalked up some quarter million dollars of medical bills and counting. It cost her some $214,000 for major treatments alone in the initial month. Thankfully, she has comprehensive insurance coverage which has allowed her to concentrate fully on her recovery journey.

What you do matters. Insurance matters. More people should understand this.

5) Even top athletes can suffer panic attacks

When we look at professional athletes, we tend to see them as having nerves of steel. That must be the reason why they are world class right? Their ability to keep their emotions in check and get the job done. So when we let the jitters get the better of us when we are going for a stretch goal or doing something new, we tend to be harsh on ourselves. Well, here's something comforting to know, even a top athlete can suffer from panic attacks.

For football fans, you would be familiar with this name: Gianluigi Buffon - widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time. This is his story.

AIA launches Singapore's first policy that covers mental illnesses

According to a Singapore Mental Health Study by the Institute of Mental Health and Nanyang Technological University, one in seven Singaporeans experienced a mental disorder in their lifetime, an increase from one in eight in 2010. And of those who have experienced a mental disorder in their lifetime, the majority - about 75% - did not seek professional help.

To tackle the stigma of mental conditions head-on and to encourage timely and appropriate treatments, the policy provides coverage for five mental illnesses.

Other features of the product include up to 200% coverage for 43 major stage CI and 100% refund at the end of the policy term for policyholders who remain in the pink of health.

Here's wishing all our readers who celebrate the Lunar New Year, a healthy and wealthy new year filled with love and happiness!
