Asia, Hong Kong: Sun Life Asia and MDRT Academy partner to develop next generation of MDRT-level advisors

| 26 Jan 2026

Sun Life Asia is partnering with the MDRT Academy to bring its globally recognised development platform to Sun Life advisors across the region. The partnership reinforces Sun Life's commitment to building a caring, empowering, and performance-driven advisor culture - one that supports advisors at every stage of their growth and helps them reach their full potential.

Under the new agreement, Sun Life will leverage the MDRT Academy to cultivate the next generation of MDRT-level advisors across Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, strategically integrating the Academy’s comprehensive learning resources with Sun Life’s internal agency development programs. This combined approach advances Sun Life’s MDRT ambitions across Asia while strengthening capabilities, productivity, and client-service excellence.

The collaboration reinforces Sun Life’s regional approach to investing in advisor development and ensuring advisors feel valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential. It creates clearer pathways for advisors to develop professionally and grow their business, while reinforcing Sun Life’s commitment to work-life balance and respecting their time.

Mr David Broom, Chief Client and Distribution Officer for Asia, said, “By partnering with the MDRT Academy, we are strengthening advisor development pathways across our markets, helping advisors build more rewarding careers while delivering greater value to clients.”

Through the partnership, Sun Life’s Academy members will gain access to the guided 12-month learning journey, built around MDRT’s proven success principles. Sun Life will tailor the MDRT Academy experience by integrating the Academy’s development pathways with its own capability programs to reinforce consistent MDRT-level standards across the region.

The Academy will serve as a platform to identify and accelerate high-potential advisors on their journey toward MDRT qualification. In addition, Sun Life will offer exclusive recognition opportunities, including 2026 preview privileges that allow Academy members to experience select elements of the MDRT Annual Meeting before achieving formal qualification – access typically reserved for the following year’s qualifiers.

Mr Stephen P Stahr, CAE, Chief Executive Officer, MDRT, said, “We are excited to partner with Sun Life Asia and complement their efforts by providing a unique training resource that gives newer advisors the opportunity to learn best practices from experienced MDRT members globally. The MDRT Academy’s combination of goal-setting and production-tracking tools, a vast library of content and access to MDRT members through virtual and in-person events provides a pathway to success for those looking to advance in the financial services profession.”
