Here is the story of Christine Wong who has made the shift from being an actuary.
- What motivated you to make the shift?
“I have been with Great Eastern for 19 years. I first joined as an actuary and did that for five years. In my previous role, I observed that consumers do not know enough about insurance and there is much misconception about insurance in general.
This triggered my desire to be the “bridge” to help educate consumers on insurance and financial planning. I also knew several Great Eastern financial representatives who genuinely wanted to educate and help their clients. I decided to switch to be an agent as I felt inspired by them and believe that I can help to educate people about insurance.”
- How has your past vocation helped you in your current career with Great Eastern?
“Though my previous job dealt more with numbers than people, this turned out to be my strength. As I worked on my people skills, I found that my customers trust me more because I am good with numbers and can explain the financial plans very clearly to show them the benefits.”
